Gifted and Talented American Government is designed to provide guidance and assistance to teachers in helping students meet the educational objectives and state performance levels identified in the Baltimore County Public Schools' curriculum. The BCPS curriculum is correlated with the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum and Core Learning Goals, the Maryland School Assessments (MSAs), and the High School Assessments (HSAs).
Within this guide are specific strategies for:
Developing critical and creative thinking.
Using technology as a teaching and learning tool.
Implementing education which is multicultural.
Differentiating instructional content, processes, products, and the learning environment to meet the learning needs of all students.
The purpose of this guide is to provide teachers with the necessary framework to plan and implement an integrated program that will help all students meet grade level standards.Gifted and Talented American Government is designed to prepare students for effective and active citizenship through analysis and evaluation of political systems. Processes required in a participatory democracy, such as problem solving, decision making, and informed judgment, are sequentially introduced, developed, and reinforced. Additionally, this program of study provides for the needs of gifted students through the use of an integrated framework that includes overarching concepts, advanced content, and challenging processes and products.
Our goal is to create challenging and engaging work in every school. The Board of Education of Baltimore County and I wish to thank the teachers, administrators, parents, and central office personnel who worked so diligently on this curriculum. It will enhance students' knowledge and skills as they prepare for their future.
